Escape from New York

What a bad person I am, teasing people with an online account of the bike trip and not posting anything for a week and a half. Well, I'm fixing that now. I'm currently in a library in.. Somewhere, Ontario (Chatham-Kent County).

Getting through New York was a little tedious, but beautiful none-the-less. The Erie Canalway Trail is NOT meant for road bikes or anyone without a really.. really... really good sense of direction. We popped all our intertubes within the first couple days (mostly on Kevin's bike- he had much thinner tires). Can't really complain though- we had a shower and a place to stay almost every night.

Getting to Rochester was a nightmare. Four blown tubes, five wasted hours, but we finally made it into Fairport at 10 pm. Quaint little town, much like Saratoga, but with a canal. Elliot and his family gave us a great meal and more hospitality than you could shake a stick at which was especially welcome after that horribly frustrating day. Mad props, E-man.

New York was pretty uneventful otherwise. We had to camp along the Erie once.. hooray.

Last night we stayed in a little town called Rodney. SO small. We camped out in the middle of the rec center on what looked like a concrete theatre stage with a track around it. We were awakened to the sound of horse hooves pounding across the ground, and whips and such. Yup, we camped out in the middle of a horse track.

We just found a place to stay, and we have about 3 and a half hours of biking to go before we get there. I have so much more to write but I gotta gooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
